Russian riot police were called in to disperse coal miners and their families who had blocked a railway line in Siberia to protest against a mine accident last weekend which killed at least 66 people. Police said 28 people had been arrested and could be charged with blocking the railway. May 14, 2010. The historical festival Legends of Norwegian Vikings takes place in St. Petersburg in the fortress of Petropavlovskaya on the May 14 – 16. Military history clubs from different Russia cities are taking part in it. The festival takes place within The Norwegian Days in St. Petersburg. A Viking village appears on the banks of Neva River, and everybody are able to see everyday life and customs of the early medieval Norwegians, to get familiar with different medieval crafts, to learn, how the weapons and jewelry were manufactured and even read your fortune on the runes. Show battles and competitions are also included into the program. Everybody have a possibility to feel like a medieval Norwegian during the festival.

May 5th,2010.A public bus No.187 in St. Petersburg drove its route through the very centre of St.Petersburg - Nevsky avenue (pictured) adorned with an advertisement that includes a portrait of Soviet dictator Josef Stalin. Bus No. 187 will be sporting the ad featuring Stalin on its sides for the next two weeks (in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War Victory ). Officials said the advertisement was paid for by an activist group that they refused to name.
