November 24, 2008. The 75th anniversary of Famine ( Holodomor - or Death by Hunger as it is known in Ukraine ) is traditionally marked in Ukraine. Pictured: an old ukrainian woman hold the photograph of her relatives - the victims of the Great Famine of 1932-33 in Ukraine at Mikhailovskaya Square in Kiev. The event in Kiev is to commemorate the victims of the artificial hunger, undertaken by the regime of Joseph Stalin within the implementation of the Soviet project. This resulted in famine with between 7 to 10 million Ukrainians, mostly peasants, starving to death in the very country known as `the breadbasket of Europe.` Famine of the 1932-33 is a tragedy known in Ukraine as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian nation
